Ryan Mackley started Spruce Creek Multimedia in 1998 in order to produce high-quality sports highlights films. The business has grown and expanded over the course of the last thirteen years. Not only does Spruce Creek still make sports films, the company has also expanded into corporate and wedding work.
In 2008, seeing a need for a creative and flexible web design firm in Western Colorado, Ryan began designing websites for companies and organizations across the region. Three years and more than fifty web projects later, Spruce Creek Multimedia is firmly established in the Colorado web design market.
Later in 2008, needing high quality photographs for a web client, Ryan picked up his first professional digital camera. He discovered a passion for photography and began selling his landscape and architecture shots across the state. He also formed a partnership with longtime friend Jeremy O’Donnell. Jeremy owns and operates O’Donnell portrait and handles all portrait photography jobs for Spruce Creek. Many an early Saturday morning, Ryan and Jeremy can be found, cameras in hand, capturing the natural beauty of western Colorado.
Ryan believes in local talent providing high quality work for local clients. That is why he has created numerous relationships with local web developers, designers and artists. These talented individuals work with Spruce Creek Multimedia on a freelance basis. This allows Spruce Creek’s overhead low while still providing a talented and driven team to provide the best multimedia projects in Western Colorado.
Ryan is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder. He is married with three children and enjoys spending time with his family. He volunteers on many local boards and with many local organizations. He loves coaching football, fly fishing, hiking, and, of course, surfing the internet. One of these days he plans on finishing it.
The Name
I grew up on a ranch in western Colorado. Our place is on the edge of the mountains and lies between them and the desert-like terrain of the far west side of the state. It is semi-arid and we always are thankful for whatever water we get. Spruce Creek is the creek that runs through the ranch. “Creek” is a generous term since the size of the stream is truly miniscule and it only runs for about one month per year. It is really more of a ditch, and an unreliable one at that.
But during late spring we would get water and that water would provide essential irrigation for the hay fields. We named the ranch Spruce Creek Ranch and when I was thinking of the name for my company, I came to the conclusion that this little body of water was a great namesake, since it was such a big part of my family’s life.
